Personal Data Protection Notice
PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION NOTICE
In compliance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 ("PDPA"), Boon Chew Chambers ("BCC" / "us" / "we") hereby informs you of the manner in which we collect, use, process, and disclose your personal data in connection with our provision of legal services.
1. DATA CONTROLLER

2. PERSONAL DATA COLLECTED
We collect: (a) identity data — full name, NRIC/Passport number, date of birth, nationality; (b) contact data — address, email address, telephone number; (c) financial data — income tax file number (TIN), SST registration number; (d) for corporate clients — SSM registration number, list of directors, shareholders and beneficial owners, authorised representative details; and (e) matter data — nature of legal services required and documents submitted.
3. PURPOSES OF PROCESSING
Your personal data is collected and processed for the following purposes:
- To verify your identity and conduct customer due diligence ("CDD") as required under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 ("AMLA 2001") and guidelines issued by the Bar Council of Malaysia;
- To establish and administer the solicitor-client relationship;
- To provide legal services as engaged by you;
- To issue tax invoices (e-invoices) in compliance with the Income Tax Act 1967 and requirements of the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN);
- To comply with applicable laws, court orders, and our professional obligations as Advocates & Solicitors; and
- For internal record-keeping and file management purposes.
4. DISCLOSURE TO THIRD PARTIES
Your personal data may be disclosed to: (a) courts, tribunals, and regulatory authorities; (b) the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN) for e-invoicing purposes; (c) the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) and other government registries; (d) opposing solicitors and counterparties in your matter; (e) banks and financial institutions where relevant to your matter; (f) the Bar Council of Malaysia; and (g) our professional consultants and service providers who are bound by confidentiality obligations.
5. DATA RETENTION
Your personal data will be retained for a minimum period of seven (7) years from the conclusion of your matter, or for such longer period as may be required by law, whichever is the longer.
6. YOUR RIGHTS
You have the right to: (a) request access to your personal data held by BCC; (b) request correction of any inaccurate or incomplete personal data; (c) withdraw consent, subject to our legal and professional obligations; and (d) lodge a complaint with the Personal Data Protection Commissioner.
